The area around Alice Springs is such an amazing place to visit, especially if you are an artist. Earlier this month, I took part in an art tour with Aussie Redback Tours. We travelled around Alice Springs with a group of artists and tutor Leonie Norton and were treated to some beautiful scenery which just begged to be captured in our travel diaries. Students had the opportunity to watch short demonstrations and then find their own little spot to sketch and paint. The choices were varied – gorges, creeks, old historical buildings, stunning white gum trees, and the ever-present mauve hills in the distance!
Leonie was always available to help those who were stuck with colour mixing, perspective, and simply getting started. Leonie Norton is a well-known and respected artist and tutor. She is known for her articles in the Australian Artist magazine, her travel diary tours, and her caring, patient attitude when teaching. The artists were treated to lots of one-on-one tutoring and each day were given a review of what had been painted and achieved throughout the day.
The tour was titled “Namatjira Country” and this is the second time that Aussie Redback Tours had conducted the tour, following on from it’s very successful tour last year.
