Snails are regular visitors to my garden which is sometimes ok but not when they eat my favourite plants! They’re interesting to watch though and easy enough to photograph because they are so slow! For this painting, I used a black and white photograph to work from in order to see the tonal range (light to dark) without the distraction of colour. I used a limited palette to create some colours that would be applied throughout the painting without restrictions of what colours goes where. You get to choose where you place the colours. The most important part of this painting is getting the tones/values correct.
