My Spider Art World

Welcome spider fans!

Do you find spiders fascinating? I do and I have ever since I was a child. Did you ever have story books about the little creatures that live in your garden? With pictures of spiders, beetles and butterflies with their families, making homes in mushrooms, and having conversations with one another? I had a number of those books. It was a lovely fantasy world to live in. Now as an adult, I still find the “little” world fascinating, and have discovered that there are more arachnids in the world than just redbacks and tarantulas! There are orb spiders, jumping spiders, crab spiders, peacock spiders, and….the list goes on.

They each have their own personalities just like humans, and they each live differently, eat differently and even mate differently! If you are just as fascinated about them as I am, then why not join me on my journey of spider discovery? Maybe you’d like to have one of my originals on your wall? It would definitely be a talking point with your friends and family!

My Spider Art Journey

After a number of years of painting and exhibiting general subjects, I finally put together an exhibition which showcased my spider art journey, beginning with my “self-portrait” with a redback spider on my shoulder, to semi-abstract large paintings with small hidden spiders in them, to larger in-your-face spiders.

The opening was held at Leamac Picture Framers and Gallery in Clarkson, Western Australia, on Halloween – Saturday 31 October 2020. It seemed only natural to open a spider exhibition on Halloween. You’ll see a short video of the opening on this page. Many thanks to Tanya Izzard of GlobeVista for the professional video production.

Watercolour Lessons

Watercolor is my preferred painting medium. It is amazing at how much you can do with watercolour and how much undiscovered territory there is with this medium!

I combine my passion of painting spiders with teaching others to enjoy the world of watercolour too (where we also paint normal subjects like cats, dogs, landscapes and flowers)! My painting classes and workshops are held in Wangara (northern suburb of Perth, Western Australia), and I also run online watercolour lessons. Details of both are on my Painting Classes page. I enjoy watching my students working on their own watercolor journey, starting from scratch with no knowledge of the medium, to going out on their own and entering competitions and holding their own exhibitions.
